Founded in 2013, we are a Canadian registered charity that facilitates the foster and adoption of animals initially rescued and rehabilitated primarily in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.   We do our very best to find the best match for our animals and the people opening their homes and hearts.  It is our passion to ensure that our dogs are never failed again and that they will know the joy and love that they so deserve.  We work to support our dogs and their families through their transition and to celebrate who they become as new Canadians.

We partner primarily with the SPCA PV (https://spcapvr.com) who run a small shelter, sponsor free spay and neuter clinics, and support local rescuers / fosters.  The SPCA PV care for and assess the rehabilitated animals with the support of veterinary and volunteer resources.  Each animal we help leaves room for another abused, abandoned or neglected street dog to take it's place at the no-kill Sanctuary animal shelter.

In 2007, long time PV resident Janice Chatterton founded the SPCAPV. The Sanctuary opened in 2012 - a no-kill shelter that could house up to 130 animals. In 2007, long time PV resident Janice Chatterton founded the SPCAPV. The Sanctuary opened in 2012 - a no-kill shelter that could house up to 130 animals. Due to sheer numbers of dogs in PV they soon realized that they would not be able to re-home enough dogs there to continue rescuing. Luckily through her hotels Janice connected with some Canadians and eventually were able to establish a charity in Canada to partner with. Since that time, the SPCA PV sanctuary was hit with two hurricanes, and though they managed to save all the dogs, they had to rebuild. With Janice’s passing and reduced funding, the SPCA PV managed to build a smaller shelter, continue to sponsor free spay and neuter clinics toward managing the overpopulation of uncared for pets, and support local fosters.  To follow more of their work or to make a donation directly to their shelter see: https://spcapvr.com/

Foster to Adopt

For those ultimately seeking to adopt but wanting a short period to meet the dog arriving from Mexico, we offer a foster to adopt programme.  In this scenario you would welcome the dog upon arrival from Mexico and spend up to 2 weeks with the animal before making a decision to adopt.  In this window, we would pause advertising the pet.  If after 2 weeks you decide this pet isn’t the best fit, applicants agree to continue to foster the animal while we resume advertising to find a suitable placement.  This is typically offered for animals arriving from Mexico who you may not otherwise have an opportunity to meet ahead of time.
